What's an Investment Banker and what does the job involve?

What does the job of an Investment banker involve? What skills are required? I was at a wedding in London and met someone who was an investment banker in Dubai, sounds very good? What's the best degree for it? I'm currently doing a Bsc Economics degree with a few finance modules.
